Dr. Julia Martorana BA, BSc., DC graduated from Northwestern College of Chiropractic in 1997 with her Doctorate in Chiropractic and a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology.   In 1997, Dr. Martorana received her certification in Chiropractic Radiology from Northwestern College of Chiropractic, and in 1997 earned a Certificate of Competency in the use of Radiographic Facilities and Equipment. In 1992, Dr. Martorana completed a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Psychology and a minor in Sociology from the University of Manitoba.  Dr. Martorana is enrolled as a member of the British Columbia College of Chiropractors, British Columbia Chiropractic Association and Board of Chiropractic Examiners in the State of Minnesota, and a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association.  She also obtained her CrossFit Level 1 Instructor Certification in 2009. 

Upon graduation, Dr. Martorana practiced in Minneapolis, Minnesota in a high volume clinic.  It was here that she had the opportunity to work with professional athletes.  Dr. Martorana dedicated a large part of her practice to athletes and sport-related injuries and worked with families, children, and infants. In 2000, she relocated to Victoria, BC, where she opened a multi-doctor, multi-disciplinary clinic.  During the past ten years, Dr. Martorana has operated a high volume practice focusing on evaluating and treating musculoskeletal related conditions, sports injuries, rehabilitation, injury management and prevention.   During this time, Dr. Martorana has completed numerous seminars including Dr. Stuart McGill’s Low Back Seminar and Somatic Senses Shoulder Rehabilitation.   

Dr. Julia is also the proud mother of the worlds cutest and smartest little girl, Lola!

Dr. Cindy Matthew DC is a 1997 graduate of Northwestern College of Chiropractic in Minneapolis, Minnesota. A former Manitoban, she was drawn to the beauty an warmish weather of Vancouver Island. Having worked in a few different family practices since graduating Chiropractic School; she has been part of the Back to Back family since 2000. Dr. Cindy is available Monday to Friday to take care of your Chiropractic needs. 

mikeHeadshot.jpgDr. Michael Maxwell BHK, DC has been a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist since 2002 and has been actively involved in personal training, medical exercise, rehabilitation and performance training since 1997.  He has been Chiropractic Consultant for Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton for 07-08’ and 08-09 seasons, and for World Champion Ironman (age 30-34) Tommy Nielson. He is a former strength and conditioning coach for the Camosun Men’s Volleyball team, and has consulted with many recreational to elite athletes.

Michael has hosted over 500 hours of continuing education with many world renowned educators in Chiropractic, Manual Therapy and Sports Medicine in the last 5 years. RobinDunkley.jpg Dr. Robin Dunkley DC graduated from the University of Victoria with a B.Sc in Psychology (Hon).  She completed her chiropractic studies at Western States Chiropractic College.  Following graduation, she interned in Lima, Peru, where she encountered a variety of unique patients and refined her Spanish communication skills. 

Upon her return to North America, she worked in a busy rehabilitation clinic in Seattle, WA.  In this clinical setting, the focus was on treating and providing rehabilitation to patients who had been involved in motor vehicle accidents, work related incidents and who had sustained sports injuries. 

Robin then returned to BC where she worked as a locum for several months prior to moving to Ireland to continue chiropractic care in a family practice. 

She has a particular interest in treating sports injuries as she is an avid runner and has participated in several triathlons. Her own athletic goals and injuries have given her valuable insight into the treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries as well as ways to improve athletic performance. She has completed 3 marathons and most recently finished a half ironman.  She enjoys working with a diverse population of athletes and families, from weekend warriors to more competitive athletes.

Gwen Cole RMT is a member of the College of Massage Therapists of British Columbia, as well as the Massage Therapists Association of British Columbia. She graduated from the West Coast College of Massage Therapists, in Victoria BC in December 2002. Gwen has been practicing in BC since 2004, upon returning from Alberta where she was registered with the Association of Massage therapists and Holistic Practitioners in 2003. To date Gwen has worked with hundreds of clients whose ages run from pre-teen to geriatric; who have suffered from varying ranges of injuries and dysfunctions from daily aches and pains, common strains and sprains, to post surgical conditions, as well as numerous cases including work with ICBC, DVA and WCB cases.

Gwen's education was very thorough 3000 hour program that trained her to work with several different modalities to ensure that clients are being given the most complete care possible. Some of these courses include Myofascial, Craniosacral, Visceral Manipulation, Reiki, Muscle Energy Technique, Joint Mobilizations, Muscle Testing and Gait Assessment. With a combination of any of the aforementioned Gwen is able to feel confident in her assessments, treatment and rehabilitation skills. Her volunteer work includes working with the 24hr Relay, Run for the Cure, the Royal Victoria Marathon and has been involved in group talks with Running Room group talks. 

Gwen has completed a number of post-graduate certificates covering areas of Manual Lymph Drainage, Elite Sports Massage, Thai Massage and Somatic Neuromuscular Integration. She is currently attending the Canadian College of Chinese Medicine to study Acupuncture. This will allow Gwen to continue working with her patients with a new view on keeping the body in Balance.


Dr Stefan Rabnett TCM, RAC is a registered Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of BC (CTCMA). A Vancouver native, he graduated from Simon Fraser University in 1995 and used the subsequent four plus years to travel abroad and contemplate the varying approaches to human health and wellness. In 2000 Dr Stefan decided it was time to study Acupuncture and moved to Victoria to attend the Canadian College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. After 3 years of study Dr Stefan became a Registered Acupuncturist. He continued his studies to become a Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner (Licensed Herbalist) in 2004 and successfully challenged British Columbia’s first ever Dr. of Traditional Chinese Medicine in exam in 2005.

Dr Stefan enjoys treating all levels of imbalance within patients. He recognizes that each patient is unique: some require a purely physical approach, while others are best served by addressing the deeper underlying themes permeating the entire mind / body system. Dr Stefan has trained in various Sports Medicine approaches, as well as several disciplines of “Five Element Acupuncture” to accompany his training in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Dr. Stefan maintains a strong interest and knowledge of herbal medicines and has managed to source the highest quality formulas for use in the clinic. Dr. Stefan prides himself in finding the right technique for each patient and uses other modalities, such as Acutonics, Laser, Magnet Therapy, and Reconnective Healing to ensure that regardless of the patient’s age and level of imbalance, a comfortable and effective treatment plan can be established.
